Hidden Level Select Hack Code For Renegade on Original Nintendo
In the 1980s, beat'em games were so popular. Games like Double Dragon, BattleToads, Streets of Rage, and Final Fight were popular in the arcades and at home on the Original Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System, and Sega Genesis. One of the more unique states on the platform was Renegade by Taito, featuring more of a Chibi-style animation similar to River City Ransom. Renegade was pretty challenging, but we just discovered it actually has a hidden level select hack code. Let's check it out!
Armed with your fists, feet, and the environment itself, you'll brawl your way through four distinct stages, each culminating in a brutal showdown with a memorable boss. Grab fallen weapons like pipes and chains to gain a temporary edge, or simply rely on your raw fighting prowess to clear the streets.
Renegade stands out with its unique "karma" system. Choose to mercilessly stomp downed enemies or show a bit of restraint – your actions will influence the game's ending, adding a layer of replayability to the hard-hitting action. While perhaps not as technically refined as some later entries in the genre, Renegade's gritty atmosphere, challenging gameplay, and rebellious spirit cemented its place as a memorable and influential title in the NES library. It's a raw and visceral experience that will test your reflexes and leave you feeling like you've just survived a real street fight.
Renegade features 4 total levels. They are:
Subway Platform: You'll face off against street punks in a dimly lit subway station.
Wharf: The battle moves to the docks where you'll encounter outlaw bikers.
Alley: Prepare for a fight against a gang of Kung Fu females in a narrow alleyway.
Maze: The final stage is described as a maze where you'll confront bloodthirsty hoods.
To pull off the hack, you're going to need both a player 1 and a player 2 controller. For Player 1, I'm using my Retro-bit Origin8 Wireless controller, and for Player 2 I have my Retro Fighters Jab. You can choose between levels 2 - 4, and here's the buttons and directions you need to press:
Stage 2 - Hold Left on Controller 2 and press Down, Up, Right, Up, Left, Up, Start on Controller 1
Stage 3 -Hold Down on Controller 2 and press Up, Down, Left, Down, Right, Down, Start on Controller 1
Stage 4 - Hold Up on Controller 2 and press Down, Down, Up, Up, Right, Left, Start on Controller 1
