Chibi Maruko-chan: Maruko Deluxe Quiz Arcade
The story of Chibi Maruko-chan: Maruko Derakkusu Kuizu is structured as a sequel to chapter 36 of the original manga and episodes 31 and 32 of the first anime series.
One day, little Maruko receives a letter inviting her to participate in the popular TV show "Derakkusu Kuizu," where the winner will win a trip to a southern island. She gladly accepts and is determined to win the first prize so she can meet Psadie again.
The eight levels that make up Chibi Maruko-chan: Maruko Derakkusu Kuizu are divided into three stages. The first stage features a classic multiple-choice quiz (four options), the second one of eight different "variety quizzes" that require different skills beyond simple knowledge, and the third a minigame. Before the session begins, the player chooses a pair of partner characters, each with special abilities that affect gameplay, such as selecting the question type, doubling the score, extending the answer time, or reducing the answer options.
During the first two phases, the characters alternate answering; if all three get a question wrong or do not answer within the 15-second time limit, the game ends.
Each variety quiz has unique features and a difficulty level indicated by stars (1 to 4). Some examples include:
Observation (☆) - Identify which picture is more numerous in a brief flash of images.
Intuition (☆☆) - A question with three clues that must be connected to find the answer.
Analysis (☆☆☆) - Identify the hidden word illuminated by a moving light.
Memory (☆☆) - Observe an illustration for 10 seconds and answer questions about it.
Exploration (☆☆☆☆) - Find hidden words in a hiragana or katakana grid.
After completing the variety quizzes, the player accesses a minigame where, if successful, they earn medals. These medals can be used in subsequent roulette bonus games to bring back eliminated characters or earn extra points. The minigames vary for each level and include: slot machines with character faces, whack-a-mole-style target shooting games, number-matching card games, and a maze with a bug controlled by the player.
Little Maruko and Grandpa (the latter controlled by the second player) are accompanied by twelve characters, divided into six pairs of two. Once a pair is chosen, a trio is formed, and the player can arrange them in any order they like. The characters in question with their special abilities are:
Dad & Big Sister (Gender Select/Quote x2 Clear).
Mom & Grandma (Three Choices/Slow Tempo).
Tama & Migiwa (Quote x2 Clear/Slow Tempo).
Hanawa & Maruo (Gender Select/Three Choices).
Pootaro & Hamaji (Quote x2 Clear/Three Choices).
Fujiki & Nagasawa (Slow Tempo/Gender Select).
Mistakes carry consequences: a wrong answer eliminates one team member, and after three losses the game ends. The show-like presentation, complete with animated portraits, voice clips, and lively backgrounds, makes the whole experience feel like stepping into an episode of Chibi Maruko-chan, even as the stakes rise with each incorrect choice.
