Time to go snatch up that Rainbow Shell. Ayla's coming along for the ride since Giant's Claw is going to look mighty familiar when you step inside.
Speaking of the place, it's located in 600 AD on an island to the northwest of the Choras region.
In the first room, you'll find a note from Toma making mention of holes that bring oneself back to the beginning. If that sounds familiar, head into the next room to find out that Giant's Claw houses a familiar dungeon, Azala's Tyrano Lair. Rather interesting for sure.
Since this dungeon is basically a Tyrano Lair retread with some new areas, it's only fair that the enemies are upgraded versions of several 65m BC enemies. Do keep your hp topped off between fights because these enemies actually pack a punch.
In the first room past Azala's throne room, you can go west or east. West just leads to a ladder you can't reach so you're supposed to go east (Though do grab that Reason Cap on the western side of the room first). I go east first, then west, then realize that ladder can't be reached so I have to go east again. Lovely isn't it?
In the room going east are a few switches. The right one drops some primates you'll have to fight, the center switch makes a save point appear, and the western switch opens up the floor so you can fall down to the next level.
The next level has two more switches. The western one opens the skull to the north where a Soda Tab can be picked up while the eastern one calls in a few Leapers to kill.
Exiting to the south, you'll be in another cave area. There's another Soda Tab, a Full Ether, two apes to beat up, and a partially hidden chest in the southeast containing another one of those triple tech granting rock accessories, the Blue Rock. Magus gets another triple tech he can participate in with this rock equipped called Omega Flare.
In the next room, there's another partially hidden chest you'll want to grab since it contains the female only counterpart to the Moon Armor, the Zodiac Cape.
Taking the exit in that above room that's in the south, it's linear until you reach a Tyrano Lair esque room with two more switches. Neither one's required to press, but you can watch some enemies fall down a hole if you don't want to fight them. Take the western exit out of this room to find a Frenzy Band accessory. Just like the Rage Band, but it now has a 80% counter rate.
The other path leads to more linear exploration until the 2nd save point before the boss, but there are a couple rogue Rubble enemies on the way you can deal with if anyone still needs to learn some techs.
At the save point, toss the Red Mail on to somebody and make sure your other two party members have Ruby Armors. Throwing the two Rage Bands & the Frenzy Band on is a good idea too because in the cell that Kino was once imprisoned in is an exit into the final room of the dungeon.
The good news? The Rainbow Shell is in the very back of the room.
The bad news? There's one angry tyrannosaurus that wants to get revenge for its fallen brother.
This beast is the Rust Tyrano and is literally just a higher stats Black Tyrano. There are a couple extra gimmicks tossed into the mix though, both of which have to do with the big fire AoE it does when the countdown hits 0.
First off, I really hope you have those Ruby Armors & Red Mail equipped because the fire AoE hit Frog & Robo for 180-200 damage through 80% mitigation.
As for the gimmicks? The countdown gets smaller each time it pops up. Starts at 5, then the next one starts at 4, then ALL the way down to 1 beyond that. That wouldn't be so bad were it not for the final gimmick...the fire AoE gets stronger each time it's used.
Amusingly enough, the roars the boss does during its countdown phases can trigger the counter chance from the Rage Bands & newly picked up Frenzy Band. Same thing could have happened with Black Tyrano, but you didn't have a third counter accessory at the time.
Long story short, counters going off left & right meant that the Rust Tyrano went down just shortly into the countdown for its second fire AoE.
After the fight, the Rainbow Shell is to the north, but you'll need some help picking it up. Head south and you're automatically whisked to Guardia Castle. The king will send some of his men to go pick it up, meaning our part's done in this quest...at least in this timeline.
The finale to this quest comes next time!
