CiB Game Boy Theater - Ultima: Runes of Virtue and Jurassic Park (Episode 104)
2The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
As mentioned, I know very, very little about the Ultima series, and although Runes of Virtue is very antiquated by this point, I enjoyed my limited interaction with the game. It's like if you took Hydlide for the NES and made it better. Not TOO good, mind you, but better enough that the game is passable and can be enjoyed for a brief amount of time 30 years later. If you're a fan of games like this, I can recommend Runes of Virtue!
Jurassic Park - a solid game with solid graphics / sound / controls that is sandwiched between everyone's favorite words in retro video games - 'where the heck do I go?'. Yep, it's one of -those- games. Collect a bunch of eggs, fight or flee from dinosaurs, and collect more eggs. Is there more to the game? I'll never know from personal experience because I hate having to collect everything of an item when I have absolutely no idea, not even a clue, where those items could be.
The makings of a good game are here, and I want to like it, but I just really hate the 'where do I go?' style, especially for Game Boy games, -especially- for games that give you no reliable hints. Regardless, thank you for watching!
