Deadly Premonition single playthrough / hard difficulty / no death (Xbox 360)
This playthrough has the following challenge requirements:
1) Playthrough must be completed in one sitting
2) No death
I define death as anything that causes the investigation failure screen. This could be caused by York dying from running out of health, failing a QTE that causes instant death, or even failing a required minigame later in the story. I also think you can get a investigation failure if the car you're driving flips over upside down.
3) Hard Difficulty
Enemies have a lot more health. Enemies also do a lot more damage on hard difficulty.
Enemies really really want you dead and will only take seconds to reach you.
If you let your guard down for even a moment or make a bad decision, they'll get you. It almost got me killed me a few times throughout this playthrough.
4) No infinite ammo weapons (exceptions being York's default gun, Emily's gun, and the "special" gun =P)
I mean the infinite ammo weapons you get in sidequests, which are noted to have a infinite symbol instead of ammo number and is colored red.
It's more fun to me when you have limited ammo because it makes you be more careful how much ammo you use for each weapon.
5) the sidequests to get the increase weapon number you can carry, the increase item number you can carry, radio, and all of Emily's sidequests must be completed
I need the radio for fast travel. The item to increase number of weapons I can carry gives me more weapon options to use in combat zones. The item to increase number of items I can carry lets me bring more items with me at all times. Emily's sidequests are really important to the development of York and Emily's character.
6) The following are optional requirements I hope I can do in the playthrough, but if I fail, I won't reset over it:
- optional requirement #1: finish off a certain boss with a sword
- optional requirement #2: finish off a certain boss with the "ultimate" weapon =P
(note: due to how long this playthrough would take to do, I had to take 2 breaks to eat; the 2 breaks are at: " 5:54:42 to 6:16:41 " and " 8:55:41 to 9:04:57 " ; you'll see nothing but the pause screen.
Deadly Premonition is one of my top most favorite games in the world.
I wasn't expecting much from it since it was a low budget game which retailed for $19.99 at release in 2010.
What I wasn't expecting was to be blown away by how amazing the characters are, and their interactions with each other. Then I was even more blown away when I realized it was a open world game with the freedom to do whatever you want at the pace you want.
Francis York Morgan is one of the most amazing characters I ever seen in a videogame. I have never seen a character quite like York. His goofy smile at random moments is hilarious.
I never seen a game where you have keep track of someone's hunger, tiredness, clothes cleanliness, and beard length.
Having to manage money in this playthrough was also quite satisfying. I just barely had enough money to buy the magnum and assault rifle by end game.
These were all things I had to manage throughout this playthrough.
This playthrough only covers the main storyline along with a few sidequests.
I didn't think I would have too much trouble with the combat sections of this game even with hard difficulty, and, yet, I still almost died on several occasions. I even almost died because I forgot to eat something after sleeping. York was having a conversation while driving, and I didn't want to interrupt it. So, I watched as my health kept continuing to drop while I was screaming at York to stop talking, lol.
There are a lot of scary moments in this playthrough that made me nervous throughout the playthrough. The first is having to complete the dart minigame in order to even get the playthrough started (and this minigame is over one hour into the playthrough). If I can't complete the dart minigame, I would have to reset and try again.
There are a lot of instant kill QTE's. Some QTE's you can fail the and still live, but some have to be done right, or you will die. The most dangerous QTE is near the end of the game where you will have a number of QTE's in a running section. If you get any of these QTE's wrong, you will die. And note the QTE's in this section are random.
Another worry is the fishing minigame which happens very late in the game. There is an invisible timer to get the right item in the minigame, and when York actually catches something is all rng. If you take too long and don't catch the right item, the game will go straight to investigation failure.
You have to remember that this game didn't have a big budget to work with, but Swery was still able to put all the content he could into it and created an amazing masterpiece. Thank you, Swery. =)
This was a fun single playthrough to do in dedication to one of my favorite games ever.
This was played on the Xbox 360 console system.
Thanks for watching. Enjoy. =)
