Virtua Quest Single Playthrough (No Saving) Gamecube
A playthrough dedicated to one of my top favorite games.
All main story cutscenes are in this playthrough.
My requirements for this playthrough are:
1) No Saving: This means if I die on any Server stages, it's game over because I have no saves to load from.
But I will allow the playthrough to continue if anything that doesn't end the game and doesn't require loading a previous save happens, such as failing a hunter's exam, falling into a pit (which doesn't kill you, but you take a little damage), and losing in Virtua Fighter fights. These have retry options, so I can continue the game. Dying on missions doesn't end the game and doesn't force you to reload; it just takes you back to the lobby, so that is allowed.
Note: I'm not saving, but I will still use the save points to restore my health and sp, which is done by entering the save point booths.
2) Revives are allowed: Revives are basically like extra lives in this game. Once you die, you are revived back to full health. However, revives cost 8,000 data points each, so it's difficult to have a lot of these on hand especially in the earlier parts of the game.
I didn't want to try a no death playthrough because that would cause a lot of resets, and I didn't want to end up hating the game from repeated attempts.
3) Get all Virtua Souls for Sarah, Vanessa, Aoi, Pai, and Jacky: All of these character's cutscenes are in this playthrough. It would take too long to get everyone's virtua souls. Even just getting everything for these 5 characters is quite time consuming having to grind for model 1 and 2 figures, which is all rng drops.
Note: 7:14:50 to 8:10:20 is grinding for model 1 and 2 figures. It's quite boring to watch.
4) Get Light form for Sei as soon as possible and maintain this form for the entire game. I only recently found out each type of form can level up to 3, but I don't know how to actually level it up. Level 2 looks the best imo, so I'm happy I was able to maintain it for the entire game.
5) Pass all 3 Mandatory Hunter Exams: In past playthroughs, I have never even once completed the advanced hunter's exam, so I wanted to complete it for once without the pity pass. I will not be doing the Master exam though. That one is crazy long and hard. Once you see how brutal Master exam is, advanced exam looks easy in comparison.
I also wanted a good Moon Fight with his first form because that battle is so hype with one of the best soundtracks in the game and the battle is very fast paced.
A brief explanation of what happened at the end of the final fight. I wanted to finish off Moon with the Virtua Fighter attack (Vanessa), but I didn't get his health down low enough. I was literally off by a pixel. So Moon didn't go down, and I didn't get another chance to do it again because Moon trolls me by going big form. When Moon was charging energy, I was hoping he would heal himself, which is why I waited and didn't attack him, but, apparently, Moon can't heal himself. The only way to get him out of big form Moon is the air combo when he's charging energy. So I had no choice but to finish him off with a anti-climatic air combo. Enjoy the very awkward end of the final fight, lol.
While I do agree that the combat is not perfect with camera issues and lack of control over which enemy to target, it is still a very fun game. How can you not like a game where you can use the Karate Kid crane kick, which is one of the best moves in the game.
This will always remain as one of my top favorite games. The characters are great. The story is simple but presented in a way where nothing is obvious until the end of the game. The variety on how to fight as Sei is great with 3 forms to play as (light, middle, heavy) and the different moves each Virtua Fighter character has with their own unique styles. I usually prefer the original Japanese voices over English dubs, but this game is one of the few cases where I prefer the English voices over the Japanese voices. Most of the English voices are very well done imo. The variety of different environments is also incredible. And most of the game's soundtrack is amazing, and it's great that it has different tracks when battles start. Even for today's standards, I'd say this game's graphics are still very good. One of the reasons I played this on Dolphin emu is so I could make the graphics look even better, and it looks beyond amazing. And with emu, I could record in a much bigger resolution.
Big thanks to Drs43 where I learned new things about the game through his first playthrough of the game. And it's great to find someone else who likes this game.
Here is the opening that plays before the title screen:
