Vampire Rain No Death Allowed / Single Playthrough / Hard Difficulty / No Saving (Xbox 360)
I am one of the very few people that actually likes this game, which is why I did this game challenge, but I will admit that I have always been afraid to do this one.
Please note that I am only doing the main story missions for this challenge. I am not doing the tutorial missions.
This game is very hard to not die and is very unforgiving for making even the tiniest mistake.
This game is very serious about not being discovered by the vampires. If any vampire sees you, you're most likely dead because you do not have the weapons to fight them in most missions. Even when you do have a machine gun, the vampire has to be far enough away to give you enough time to shoot down their life bar. If you miss even a second or two of shots, you're dead. If you get hit and knocked down by a vampire, you're dead because it takes Lloyd a long time to get back back, but it only takes the vampire one second to hit you a 2nd time and kill you while you're still on the floor.
I died and failed many times. I died in every way possible from things like going the wrong direction, failing to one shot a vampire with the shotgun, failing to stealth kill, not being patient and wait for vampire to walk/look the other way, etc. I even died a few times to the James boss fight, who is programmed to not kill you in the first part of the fight because he is literally toying with you, but he can still kill you if he hits you off a high platform, which will kill you from fall damage. The last fight in the sewers with the 3 vampires in mission 8 (Infiltration) was where I kept dying the most. That part is just so hard to not die. So, every day was basically, watch the same cutscenes, play the same parts of early game over and over again, then die 2 hours into the run in the sewers in mission 8.
Note that the default brightness in the game makes the game look too dark. It's so dark you can barely see anything. So I raised the brightness so everyone can actually see what's happening.
While this game does have its share of flaws, I also think it does certain things really well such as the horror aspects of the game.
This game is designed to put fear into you and make you panic. Vampires can reach you within seconds. Sometimes the vampires can run even faster than normal. They can kill you in 2 hits. They can reach you anywhere. It takes a lot of machine gun bullets to take one down. Even with a 1 shot kill weapon like a shotgun, it requires the vampire to be pretty much right next to you in order to do enough damage to 1 shot kill. If you panic at all or can't aim fast enough, you're very likely to miss your shot to kill the vampire, which will result in death. And, the way the vampires run really fast towards you reaching you in seconds is quite terrifying. The 2nd to last boss fight with all the vampires running at you is extremely terrifying. When vampires are killed, they have a random chance of running towards you to try to hit you. While this hit does no damage, it will knock Lloyd down, giving enough time for any other still alive vampire to finish off Lloyd. The blood of vampires when they die splatter all over the ground and can really mess you up. The blood only does a little damage, but it can stun lock Lloyd to prevent him from moving or fire his gun at another incoming vampire.
Stealth kills also make you very nervous because you have to walk really slow in order for the vampires to not hear you coming up behind them. If you push the analog stick even a little too much, you'll walk too fast, then they'll hear you and kill you. Sometimes, even when you're walking extremely slow, the vampire can sometimes still hear you and will turn around. It seems really random when this happens, so you have to really pay attention.
The mechanic where you see the vampire's eyes and a scary sound effect when a vampire sees you from far away is also likely to make you panic. When you see that, you only have a second or two to hide from their field of vision, or they will know you're there and kill you.
On hard difficulty, you get a lot less ammo compared with normal difficulty. So, if you miss too many times, you can be screwed.
The story is also one of the big reasons I like this game, but there's no way for me to explain this without major spoilers.
Despite being in a life-threatening mission, Lloyd always has time to check out hot vampire chicks, eavesdrop on conversations, and play pranks on the local normal residents of the city.
Note: From now on, the intro movie will be at the end of the video for those that wish to see the intro movie. This is put at the end so I don't have to watch the intro movie every time I do an attempt, but I can still include it in the video at the end after getting the challenge clear.
I'm very glad I finally got this done. The nightmare is over, lol.
This was played on the Xbox 360 console.
Thanks for watching. =)
