This year's Steam holiday sale was lengthy and included lots of great deals (as usual mostly on indie stuff and slightly older releases, but that suits me perfectly). My number one priority, ironically enough, was to get discounted downloadable versions of Morrowind and Oblivion. The reason for this has purely to do with modding, as it is slightly less of a pain to do when you don't have an installation CD to worry about (not to mention the fact that inserting an actual physical disc into a computer is something I just can't bring myself to do anymore; it's simply too much work). Other purchases of games I already own included F.E.A.R., Amnesia and Shatter, and while GOG is usually my number one online service when it comes to atoning for the sins of my pirate-heavy youth (my only excuse is that it was an inherently social thing back then, and not the cold, anonymous torrent thievery which qualifies as "piracy" these days), I also bought the Heretic/Hexen pack, which goes nicely together with my previous purchase of the Quake bundle.

Thankfully, though, the vast bulk of my Steam sale acqusitions were games I've neither played nor owned before. On the indie side we got things like retro platformer Dark Void Zero, insanely complex macro strategy hit AI Wars, stylish side-scrolling RTS Swords & Soldiers, good-looking action RPG Numen: Contest of Heroes and the unabashedly artsy and experimental Fatale: Exploring Salome. As for more high-profile releases, some notable titles include Paradox's grand strategy magnum opus Europa Universalis III, Gearbox's tactical shooter Brothers in Arms, the two expansions to F.E.A.R. 1 as well as the Oddworld pack.

So, when am I going to have time to actually *play* all these games? As always, I have absolutely no idea. But they sure look good on my Steam Game Library page... ;)
