This video comprises one successful run and several clips of other attempts or training demos for the challenge of scoring all monsters and items (this map has no secrets) from a pistol start on Doom 2's Map 21 'Nirvana' while taking no damage, whatsoever; a.k.a. No Damage Completion.
There is commentary throughout the video, mostly recorded live as I played.
This Sandy Petersen map is one that I considered impossible or too hard for No Damage play for a very long time --- the teleporting monsters intimidated me. The group of shotgun guys all get activated when Doomguy makes a noise in their area, but if any of them teleport away they become even more dangerous because when we teleport into a room with an active enemy, the monster knows where we are and we are temporarily a sitting duck. That is especially true when imps teleport into the small square room in the yellow key area.
I looked for splash damage tactics with rockets but the only imp I could reliably kill before activating the mancubi/imps group was an imp that wouldn't teleport anyway because it started in front of the teleporter.
I should be grateful that it is possible to drop onto a radiation suit in the final room, but instead I just want to whinge about how awkwardly positioned it is, not tucked into a corner at all! Although, with practice, I got better at not being poisoned, there is no reliable method I found that completely eliminated the risk. Lining up a perfectly timed tic counting manoeuvre isn't really doable for me when imps and hell knights are attacking.
In that final area, I didn't do myself any favours when I spent a few seconds trash talking some dead chaingunners while I was invulnerable and should have been super shotgun-shooting some imps at close range when their fireballs couldn't hurt me!
Let me know what you guys think about the on screen graphics, cuckoo clock noises, or anything else you like or dislike about this video --- I welcome constructive criticism. Doom 2 is getting harder in the 20s, although Map 22 has already been speedran for Reality by 4Shockblast, among others.
