!!! Sorry Guys !!! The old 11:29 run is STILL the World Record because I missed out a COMPLEVEL command in the batchfile I used to record the attempts. By not specifying -complevel 3, the attempts recorded in complevel 21 by accident, so the final 'record' is not valid! I WILL do this challenge again and get a valid sub 7:30 demo, you can count on that! Thanks to 4ShockBlast for pointing out this error. This is only a temporary problem, I will get a valid run, I'm sure of it!
This video comprises 30 demos, mostly in clip form, including 3 successful demos, for the challenge of running through Ultimate Doom's 3rd episode 'Inferno' playing continuously from E3M1 to the exit on E3M8 without taking any damage, whatsoever, at speed. This is known as UV Speed + Reality.
There is commentary throughout the video, most of it recorded live as I streamed my attempts on Twitch. A 'Live' icon appears at the top right corner to indicate live comments, otherwise the commentary you hear was added after the gameplay.

Yes guys, it's been a long time between YouTube uploads, because I started streaming on Twitch and chose to revisit my episode challenge after a pregnant pause from Inferno (literally, 9 months!)
When I recorded the 11:29 record run on Boxing Day 2021 (video did well in January '22, see • Ultimate Doom Episode 3 UV Speed + Re... ), I already had ideas for making Slough of Despair faster and Limbo, too, so sub-10 minutes seemed reasonable. However, I wanted to wait until I had the appetite to inspect all parts of the route for potential improvements, especially being more economical with my BFG usage. I actually had 40 cells to spare at the end of the old record, which is surely some sort of crime against speedrunning!
In this video, I try to highlight various changes from the old route to the new one. Here's something that didn't make the cut:
When jumping into the damaging blood on Limbo, I actually spent fewer tics on the poison in the old 11:29 demo --- I just changed habits when practising for this new record; not a deliberate choice but my method still worked consistently so it didn't come to my attention. In summary, walking forwards until I land on the blood is better because when I run I hit the wall and drop vertically. However, the running still worked adequately.
Inferno has even more to offer for No Damage challenges --- when I have gotten used to Twitch a little more and hopefully grown the audience a little, I will be taking on UV Max + Reality, slowly and carefully. The successful demo will be very long, perhaps a few hours, so I would really appreciate your support live on stream. I will continue to summarise my No Damage challenges for YouTube as well.
Thanks again to Coincident for the transparent Ultimate Doom logo and decino for teaching us all how BFG tracers work. Those shots on M5 and M7 in particular are very satisfying.
Particular thanks to TedTheKay for not only being my first ever chatter on Twitch but also suggesting a tactic on Slough of Despair which I had briefly tried in the months previous but had dismissed for being too high-risk. That's right guys; when I'm streaming I will give in to peer pressure!
