Doom Wads/Mods The Rejected #34:Maul High
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/m-o/maulhigh School's back in session folks, be ready. Again, Doom has inspired a lot of Realistic wads where the authors have tried to create real locations using the Doom engine and also level editors, some have been bad some have been good which is where I turn my attention to this wad.
Maul High was released by Jason Franklin on March 19th 1995, Its a Highschool with a hell setting with its Doomworld I.D. Archive page noting that it has lockers, teachers, students and such making me question what exactly Jason was attempting to do, as this School seems less realistic but still with the idea of making one close to a real world one.
Maul High is another example of Doom Cute with a lot of little details that build the world around you, and of course the run and gun action of Doom with each location in this School spring loaded with a lot of enemies, The last section though really sucks with the surprise slow crushers.. I didn't like it, but Jason did well with this wad.
[[Another rejected file from the cancelled Hidden Gems special, Maul High is a stunning piece of work for 1995, Even if there are a few chunky areas. The term Doom cute to me, is something Doom has always had in its blood even in the IWAD I feel, even if the Developers weren't actually trying to do so]]
