Get hype ... I finally got a Nintendo New 3DS with a Katsukity game capture card installed, and this is the first game I will be playing on it! Dragon Quest VII is famous (or infamous) for being the longest single-player game in the series, but it is well worth the time. The 3DS version of the game looks and sounds much better than the Sony PlayStation version, and I feel the localization is a little better. I enjoy the current localization standard's penchant for puns.

After the title screen, I start a new game and name my protagonist Davilas (time 1:51). A scene gives us an overview of Estard Island. In a small shrine, we find our green-clad hero with Prince Kiefer (time 2:53). The prince speaks to Davilas before they leave.

Afterwards, we zero in on Davilas in the fishing village of Pilchard Bay (time 3:48). He is with a red-head named Maribel. She is certainly ... spirited.

We gain control in the village of Pilchard Bay (time 4:47). In the PSX version, it was called Fishbel. Davilas, the Fisherman's Son, begins at Level 1. His starting equipment is Plain Clothes. He has no spells or abilities to start.

Davilas will hunt around for items before turning in.

Next to his house in the west, Davilas find 3 gold in a barrel (time 6:46).

In the north of town, past the church, one barrel contains a Medicinal Herb (time 7:23).

On top of the church, Davilas can find 10 gold (time 7:41).

Inside the church, the priest will have some background information about the world.

By the eastern house, a barrel contains 5 gold (time 9:51).

Downstairs in Davilas's house, a barrel contains a Medicinal Herb (time 10:23).

The drawers next to Davilas's mother, Pearl, contain 10 gold (time 10:41).

Upstairs, the chest contains his life savings, 110 gold (time 11:25).

The drawers next to his bed contain a Leather Hat (time 11:37). He can equip that right away!

Davilas hops in bed for the night (time 11:52). In the morning, Pearl wakes him up.

As he goes downstairs, there is another scene with Pearl (time 12:38). Pearl gives him a Pilchard Sandwich to give to his father at the boat.

Davilas can now explore the town.

In the basement of the house on the hill behind Davilas's house, a chest contains a Seed of Resilience (time 15:49).

There is a locked chest in the item shop. It can never be opened, as far as I know.

In the kitchen of Maribel's house in the east, a barrel contains a Medicinal Herb (time 20:32).

In the western downstairs room, a wardrobe contains 2 gold (time 20:49).

In the eastern upstairs room, a wardrobe contains a Hairband (time 21:05). This is for someone not yet in the party.

A scene takes place as Davilas boards the ship on the jetty (time 22:37). Pollock and Mayor Mayde are discussing their fishing plans. Noticing Davilas, Pollock takes a sandwich and assigns Davilas to take care of some custodial work.

Belowdecks, a chest contains Wayfarer's Clothes (time 25:01). Davilas can use these.

Across from it, another chest contains a Cypress Stick (time 25:51). Wow, such a fantastic weapon ... an amazing +2 to attack power!

In the forward section, a pot contains 15 gold (time 26:56).

In the aft section of the lowest deck, a pot contains a Chimaera Wing (time 28:17).

He finds Maribel finding some barrels (time 29:48). She gets kicked off the ship. Poor Maribel, lol.

Then, Davilas talks to the cook (time 32:12). It turns out the cook doesn't need his help, after all.

Another scene takes place as Davilas climbs abovedecks (time 32:41). The ship sets sail, but Davilas does not get to come along. Poor kid. The sailing theme is awesome.

As Davilas leaves the jetty, a guard hails him (time 34:27). The guard tells Davilas to head north to Estard Castle and report to the king. Maribel comes and invites herself along. Maribel, the Mayor's Daughter, also starts at Level 1 with Plain Clothes. She starts with no spells or abilities, but she gets some offensive spells. She can use the Hairband Davilas found in her room earlier.

Inside the item shop, the shopkeeper's wife will have some interesting information about the circumstances concerning Davilas's birth.

In his house, Davilas talks to Pearl, his mother (time 40:26). Maribel is all nice and ladylike around her. Pearl gives Davilas a package of Fish Bits to deliver to Estard Castle for Kiefer.

The description is continued in the comments.
