Time for the hero to face one more battle solo, a trend that is pervasive at this point of the game. When tactics are scarce, solo fights are meant to be a stat check - have you been levelling up and have you bought any decent gear? If so, you should win; just attack and heal. This stat check is not met when doing a low level game, especially one on Draconian / Stronger Enemies settings, as we are doing here. Preparation and luck are pushed to the front.

Jörmun just isn't fun to fight at all. He's got a weak snowball attack that pushes you into HP range where any other attack will KO; a punch that you need to be at or almost at full health to survive, and a kick that you don't survive period. So, if you get kicked once, better luck next time bucko!

Hero comes equipped with the same power greatsword from the casino that he's benefited from for a while now as his premiere source of damage, helmet and armour optimised for defence. As my accessories, I carry the best accessory for defending and parrying in Shield-Bearer, a time-tested favourite, and a recent addition in Wristorative. It's much too hard to forge to +3 and this will be the case for a while, but at base it regenerates 10 HP per turn, which can stack over turns when you're not using items to recover, and the defence boost it offers isn't negligible either.

The strategy is to always maintain Greatsword Guard for +33% guard in addition to other block/parry chances from the sword and shield-bearer, and hope the boss whiffs as many attacks as possible (seems like both of us can whiff due to the weather, but I could be wrong here). When hit, recover health and wait for a chance when it's safe to attack. "Safe", more like, as any kick from the boss will leads to the game over screen all over again.

Generally, the battle tends to end when you've been hit on the same turn it's your time to renew Greatsword Guard. You either gamble with the odds and die because your health is low, or keep sandbagging until you get kicked (very low odds of evading that without Greatsword Guard).

Towards the end, when the boss is in critical HP range it appears to be a reasonable idea to risk it all and neglect healing in favour of landing a lot more blows on the boss. If you hesitate and heal, sandbagging will just lead to another death, while risking makes it possible to actually finally win this time.

And that's what happened in this recording. Very tiresome, as you can see by my setting the battle speed to Super-Fast (generally sensible for solo fights which aren't fun to watch/play on regular battle speed with little variation even if the intensity and pressure are there).

We should get used to solo fighting, as a few more of these are coming in Act 2 very soon.
