Combining two recordings into one video for more action.
Another rematch against the rival (notgary) takes place on SS Anne. Pidgey has evolved and, much to our annoyance, knows Sand-Attack. Geodude, this time of the Alolan variety, has as much a hard time as regular Geodude had against Pikachu in the first video of this series. It should be a good matchup, on paper, since Rock/Electric is even better than Rock/Ground for tanking flying-type moves and just as good for normal-type moves, but luck doesn't go our way and I even get close to losing.
Oddish is switching in next and, choosing between Mr. Mime and a Pidgeotto of my own, I send the former hoping my fairy type provokes Acid to be used instead of Sleep Powder. It doesn't help, so I have Pidgeotto switch in to finish what was started.
Pikachu is Dugtrio's practice before Lt. Surge. The Let's Go! version of Dugtrio is nowhere as powerful as the RBY or even FR/LG Dugtrio was in his game. The level cap is only lv. 19 instead of 29, accounting for Lure, the same as many other wild Pokemon in the area. It's still strong for now but will get outclassed by Nidoking basically a single route later. Overall, I'd say the Let's Go games are much better-balanced than old-school Kanto for this kind of challenge, though I also have doubts about the Elite Four being beatable without resorting to using items.
Lt Surge spells out very clearly that you can't just faceroll the fight with your Dugtrio any more. Dugtrio fails to outspeed two of Lt Surge's Pokemon and doesn't OHKO either. That makes it easily the hardest 0 exp Lt Surge fight in the series.
When Dugtrio can't do everything himself, we bring backup. Raticate and Arcanine, each capable of taking a Thunderbolt from Voltorb (surprisingly strong due to the level advantage), cooperate to 2HKO Surge's lead. Magnemite it outsped by Dugtrio and OHKO'd due to its double ground weakness, so I do just that.
Raichu is Surge's toughest mon, and having to use Quick Attack against ground types severely limits its offensive potential. It's still dangerously close to 2HKOing Dugtrio whose HP and defence aren't exactly high even for the third gym, though in my experience it never 2HKOs without crits even with high damage rolls.
