Wow, what a weird thumbnail. Took me some time to understand it's actually Rab.

We fight Krystalinda, the last boss battle of Act 1; well, the last that isn't scripted anyway. It's also the last time for a while that we get to enjoy fighting it out 4-on-1 with the next few battles being balls-to-the-walls solos.

She sure seems tougher on Hard Mode, that much I can tell you. She's got two sources of AoE ice-elemental damage - the ice spell and the icy breath attack, and she won't shy away from using both in one turn at times. Besides that, her regular physical attack really hurts and she can turn any character into a snowman, rendering them unable to do anything on their turn for a while.

I went out of my way to equip the party for ice protection here, seeing how double anti-ice accessories equipped reduces the damage of aforementioned ice magic by at least 50% (some have additional elemental protection from other pieces of gear).

However, I'm not entirely sure the ice protection is active for the entirety of the fight. At some point, generally rather early, Krystalinda will summon a snowstorm unto the battlefield, one of whose effects is to reduce everybody's ice-elemental resistance. What is visible is that when we would previously take about 30 damage from ice magic, the number goes back to 80 or so. Does this mean our accessories become completely useless when it's snowing? I couldn't tell you, honestly, but when snowstorm does fade (which may happen for a brief while), the damage from ice spells/breaths goes down noticeably and I believe these rare occasions justify wearing the accessories for the whole fight.

I employ a familiar strategy here, Serena helping buff the party with Brownie Boost before being switched out (her Hymn of Ice is useless and she's way too fragile when the snowstorm kicks in) in favour of Rab whose Sap is a must, as is the other kinds of support he offers. Jade's Multithrust is our primary source of damage output, but I rely on Hero to contribute a bit of chip damage since Jade may spend some portion of the fight as a snowman. It's important to renew her attack buffs with Sylv's Oomph, as her offence is about three times as potent as the MC's.

The snowstorm may also have the added effect of making attacks miss more often, so Jade's Multithrust being 4-strike is helpful for ensuring that at least some of the blows do land.

The next battles are going to be quite a bit different, that's for sure.
