Perfect thumbnail this time, hell yeah.
Time for our first Act 2 battle with a proper party. If you account for Sylvando acting as a guest, that makes it a four-on-one fight we're used to having. Hendrik is finally taking part, and Rab is there too. Rab has stiff competition from Serena later on, as she joins at an actual competitive level for a change in Act 2, but for now he enjoys his spoitlight as the party's supportive spellcaster.
This is a slow fight, as we start out silenced (including guest Sylvando) and have to wait for the ailment to wear off, which takes quite some time. What's more, the dragon boss lady often casts Kabuff on herself and without a chance to counter it with Sap (waiting for Rab to get unsilenced) our damage potential is far from ideal.
Still, I enter the battle with everybody pepped up, well, it's Hendrik and MC that I care about being in pepped up state. The two can execute a skill that buffs their physical attack to the maximum while inflicting maximum defence down. This is acceptable as Sylvando isn't controllable to execute The Fight Fantastic, and the boss attacks very infrequently, preferring fire magic, buffs as well as Fizzle and Kasnooze.
The best time to use Blaze of Glory is right before Hendrik and MC have their pepped up state wear off, so that when silence fades, we can start applying Saps with Rab and attacking.
I have Hendrik specialise in axes as these give him the best combination of offence, defence and support. Greatswords may be a little stronger, but the strongest greatsword skill can't crit or paralyze unlike the strongest axe skill and using greatswords is also expensive for a character with the worst MP in the game (well, when the levels are even anyway). He can also wield a shield, lending itself to better bulk and access to shield skills. A great one here is Holy Impregnable, nulling negative status effects on Hendrik for several turns. This lets me forego equipping Hendrik for sleep protection and focus on maximising his attack. Maximum sleep protection is still only 60% until MC is high-levelled enough to forge better gear, and we really don't want Hendrik slept seeing how most of our offensive output comes directly from him. Holy Impregnable doesn't seem to guarantee total status immunity though? I've had Hendrik slept a few times when practising this strat out.
Scrap Mettle can be used by Hendrik early on for a coinflip chance to reduce the boss's defence by two levels and, should he succeed, he can start attacking with his strongest skill, Parallax. Most bosses are immune to paralysis, but it hits really hard and is very MP-efficient.
Eventually, silence wears off and the attacking starts. It's all about Hendrik. Rab can finally support with Sap and Moreheal/Multiheal, as previously we had to rely on item healing with Panacea. The hero is surprisingly useless here, none of his sword skills doing much to the boss. Because of his low level, he can't get anything useful in Character Builder at this stage. It's not long until he learns the Unbridled Blade greatsword tech and we will be able to switch him out entirely too.
Gearwise, the hero just has a ton of anti-fire equipment so that fire magic doesn't burn him to a crisp when his max HP is so low. Hendrik focuses on offence, whilst Rab ensures Fizzle doesn't silence him again. Rab's contributions stop the moment he can't cast spells.
Really good to see an axe user shine here. I like axes a lot after playing so much Fire Emblem.
