Elite: Dangerous VR Tutorial - Where to go and what to do as a new player [Horizons Patch 2.1]
Elite: Dangerous VR gameplay tutorial for noobs. Using HOTAS flight sticks and HTC Vive VR in Horizons patch 2.1.
Learn about some of the most profitable and fun systems for new players and get general tips on getting started in Elite: Dangerous.
Good systems to head to:
Shu Babassi (good money/reputation)
Aditi (good money/reputation)
HIP 10716 (good money/reputation)
Wolf 397 (good for combat oriented players who want to upgrade weapons)
Deciat (for exploration players who want to upgrade FSD range)
Sothis (maximum profit potential, get a Cobra before you go here)
Many of these systems can only be fully utilized with the Horizons DLC expansion pack. Horizons DLC with patch 2.1 allows you to land on planets, assault planetary bases, and deploy a buggy to drive around procedurally generated planets to scale with real life planet sizes. Patch 2.1 also unlocks the Engineers for Horizons players. Engineers are powerful NPCs located on planets throughout the galaxy, and you gain reputation with them and bring them materials to receive upgrades to your ship's weapons and modules. The Wolf 397 and Deciat systems both contain engineers as well as local missions and ecosystems that support efficient engineer gameplay.
Players without the Horizons DLC can head to the Sothis or Ceos star systems for maximum profits. These systems have stations that offer profitable back-and-forth data delivery missions as well as long-range trading and smuggling missions that give the highest mission rewards you'll find in the galaxy. However, these stations are out "in the black" away from the human bubble of populated space, which means it's the longest journey to take, and once you get there you won't have access to certain resources (like High Tech starports with good upgrades) until you make a return journey to the human bubble. If you want to go to Sothis or Ceos as a new player, buy a Cobra first and fit with with an A rated FSD, a good fuel scoop, and lots of cargo bays. This costs about 500k which is easily obtainable.
Elite: Dangerous is space flight simulator game that support virtual reality for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR HMDs. Fly in space with realistic flight controls and physics, in a galaxy the same size and scale as our own. With 400 billion star systems to explore, and thousands of populated systems inside the human-populated bubble of outer space. Elite: Dangerous is also an online MMO that can be played solo, privately with a group of 4, or in Open mode with other random players online.
In this tutorial series I walk through the beginner process of Elite: Dangerous. The game throws you out in the wild without much explanation so it can be hard to learn. I learned how to play Elite: Dangerous in VR about 2 months ago and have put in over 250 hours of VR gameplay. I'm hoping to share what I have learned so we can get more VR players in this awesome game!
