A playthrough of Fallout Tactics, the third title of the Fallout game franchise that came out in 2001. While a "Fallout" game, Fallout Tactics is considered non-canon in the Fallout franchise established by the numbered titles, though some parts of the story told by the Brotherhood of Steel focused game have been integrated into the storyline as suggested in Fallout 3.

I reviewed this video and have to apologize beforehand that the volume balance between the mic and in-game sounds is kinda poor compared to the other videos. I don't expect my comments to be audible this time.

After many battles and relocation of bases, the Brotherhood made their last move westwards, shifting the command center to Bunker Epsilon for their campaign against the robots. The initial quest for Vault 0 had transformed from recovering lost technology to fighting that very technology which had now turned against the humans it was built to serve.

Unlike living creatures, robots could suffer damage equivalent to the loss of limbs and still be repaired and restored anew without the need to wait for the flesh to mend. Robots can also be produced in mass quantities and come off the production line ready for battle, unlike humans and mutants who need training to be more than just cannon fodder in battle. Guided by the "Calculator," a highly intelligent master system operating out of Vault 0, the robots have built repair stations that enabled them to operate further out from Vault 0. The repair stations meant robots could be rebuilt and redeployed swiftly rather than wait for delivery from Vault 0 and other automated manufacturing facilities.

While it was unfeasible to destroy a whole city that had been converted into a robotic repair station, it was possible to render it useless by disabling the power nodes needed to keep them running. To achieve this objective, the Warrior and his squad needed to deploy explosives next to all the power nodes, or whatever means available to destroy them all simultaneously. The power nodes were able to repair themselves, if given enough time, as long as one power node remained active and in working condition.

It might have been possible to have one squad member at each power node and coordinate attacks on the power nodes with conventional weaponry, but it made more sense to just set explosives on the same frequency so they'd all blow up at the same time with the push of a detonator.

When the Warrior's squad finished fighting their way past the heavily guarded paths and buildings, they planted explosives as they found each power node. Once all the power nodes had explosives planted next to time, it was time to hit the switch.

The synchronized detonation destroyed all the power nodes at the same time, rendering their self-repair functions useless, and without power, the repair station had been effectively disabled. During the mission, the Warrior's squad found a terminal containing pre-war information that made the Calculator out to be a machine and not a sentient being in the form of highly intelligent human or mutant.

Another successful mission behind them, the Warrior and his squad get debriefed by General Dekker, quite pleased by their consistent high-achieving performance. Although it was a significant victory for the Brotherhood, Canyon City only represented a small factor of the ever-growing robot threat. The tides were no where close to being turned.

However, the discovery of the Calculator's machine nature may prove crucial in how the Brotherhood Elders planned for the inevitable full-scale battle with the robots.

This video series will be broken up mission by mission when possible. Includes random commentary from me. Find the rest of the videos in this series on this playlist!
