F.E.A.R. (PC) Gameplay -No Commentary-
FEAR was one of the best FPS releases in the same ear of PC FPS games that saw the release of Half Life 2, Doom 3, Swat 4, Far Cry, and a couple years later ending in Crysis. This ear not only saw some of the best Fist person shooters of all time, but also saw a next generational jump in graphical fidelity for PC games.
F.E.A.R. came to us from Monolith games, known for the Blood series and other underrated titles like No One Lives Forever, Tron 2.0, Septerra Core, and Shogo, and blends action and horror elements into a well-made first person shooter. The game lets players use Max-Payne-inspired bullet time effects to slow the combat down mid-gunfight which helps the gunplay feel unique.
The horror elements are well done, sometimes they startle you, other times you see weird things happen our of the corner of your eye. You can tell the developers had fun in finding ways to mess with the player.
Overall, this is a beloved FPS game for a reason, it's action and horror elements mix with it's intense firefights to create a memorable experience in one of the most iconic era's in PC first person shooters. One of these days, I'll pick up the Xbox 360, and PS3 versions of this game just to have them. I know the PS3 version had a lot of technical issues, but I'll still give it a try.
