3 more battles.

Before Zozo, I put three people into my party and picked up Shadow in Kohlingen. You usually pick him up after you get Espers to have him gain an extra stat in an LLG (he's still at lv. 5 if you drop Gau on the Veldt), but we have no use for it because Shadow's the guy who equips Relics in this challenge. He's very useful for the upcoming boss battle so we take him along.

Dadaluma attacks with physicals and Shock Wave. If it weren't for Shock Wave, Gau could do this solo under Vanish status actually. But since there's risk of seeing that, we stick with Image instead.

Gau rages Trillium which results in casting Bio, a spell that penetrates the boss's weakness to poison. Edgar drills until the minions arrive - now it's a good idea to confuse them. The longer Shadow stays under Image, the safer it is for the rest of the party. If Image is over, he can still dodge with his doggy block, and counter too.

Dada dies pretty quickly here.

Ultros 2 is a battle best won quickly. He uses Tentacle here and we haven't really got anything to defend against it, no armour or good spells or anything. In other low level games, you usually put Gau in the same side of the screen with somebody else so that a Tentacle hurts Gau but doesn't kill him but with just a Green Beret on even that won't help Gau from dying (which happens in the video).

Once hit enough times, Ultros will change his position and recover all of his HP. We hope that Aspik's Giga Volt is seen more often than the regular physical attack, and casting Slow helps to postpone the moment he gets all his HP back. Here, I kill him just on time.

Ifrit & Shiva was quite a bit harder. The battle is over when you kill one of them so it's good to concentrate on just one of them, and Gau has by far the most damaging attacks in the party, even without any Earrings/Hero's Rings. Ifrit has 300 more HP than Shiva does, and there's benefit in raging Bomb because it absorbs fire AND does formidable fire-elemental damage too, whilst there is no such rage at this point that would do ice-elemental damage and at the same time absorb ice magic (correct me if I'm wrong - I don't know the whole bestiary by heart). Celes should always have Runic on, because Fire, Fire 2, Ice and Ice 2 will be cast a lot; however, this will prevent neither Blaze nor Snowstorm, both of which are deadly and have a 33% chance of being used, so we should always be ready for the worst.

Shiva can and should be slowed so that she takes a while to fade once damaged enough; of course, this is best done when Celes has just absorbed a spell with her blade and has yet to use Runic again.

If Blaze is used in this battle, targeting the whole party, only Gau will survive (Bomb absorbs fire). He's not likely to solo Shiva successfully after that however. Snowstorm always targets everybody and is an instant game over without any chance of gambling out the victory.

Still, this is all just games before that frustrating mine cart ride ahead of us, and we do intend to not gain any experience there before we reach the second Number monster.
