FF6 - Low Level Game Part VII Ifrit/Shiva, Number 024 & 128
We have invaded the Empire's Magitek Research Facility and things are getting fun to the extreme.
Ifrit/Shiva:
The battle is over when either of them loses all HP. We can choose between hurting Ifrit with Ice 2 through Gau's Darkside Rage OR we can provoke Ifrit to switch out, thus bringing Shiva in, by attacking him 5 times, then making an attempt to knock out Shiva.
My Rage decision for this battle was influenced by two things. First of all, Ifrit has more HP and is very hard to kill with Ice 2 before he disappears. Secondly, he has a move that can be neither runic'd nor reflected (with out awesome Wall Rings). This is Blaze and it knocks out the entire party.
My strategy was the following one: have Gau rage Bomb and have all three other characters jump with Dragonboots equipped. Gau will absorb Ifrit's spells thanks to his form, whereas everyone else will avoid being knocked out by Blaze AND deal damage to Ifrit, which subsequently makes him bring Shiva in.
Once Shiva appears, Celes should Runic (because not all of my characters have Wall Rings), Edgar should Drill and you, desperate player, should pray that Gau uses Blaze instead of attacking normally in order to end the battle before Ifrit once again reappears and threatens us with his dreadful Blaze.
Number 024:
This is another difficult battle. Number 024 changed elemental weaknesses like gloves and you can hardly guess what is effective against him at a given moment.
However, what we do know is that he always starts with the weakness to lightning, meaning that Gau should Rage Aspik for its ferocious Giga Volt. Edgar should help out with Drill, whereas Celes and Locke have no means of doing any respectable damage. They help out the party with healing.
At one point, Celes is hit with Overflow and kills Gau in confusion. You might say, NOOOO!!!, but this is actually amazing luck, because Gau should indeed die at this point.
Why? Number 024 is about to change his elemental weakness and Gau's Giga Volt may heal him instead of doing damage, you never know what will happen next! Kill Gau unless he is killed naturally (which happened to me in the video) and have Edgar attacking non-stop with Drill (Chainsaw does better damage but misses too often). I also had Gau rage Stray Cat, but it sucks and didn't help me much. Celes should Runic as often as possible after he changes his elemental weakness for the first time, because there is always a chance that he will cast a deadly spell on you.
Number 128:
This battle is really hard because all three parts attack you non-stop and you have to make sure both Locke and Edgar (with Auto-Haste) keep the party healed.
It doesn't make the battle any easier that I decided I must steal the rare blade Tempest from the boss (invaluable shortly afterwards), which in the end resulted in Locke dying.
Gau Rages Aspik while Edgar has the burden of being the team's sole healer with Potions. And God, do we get owned here! It seems that about 5 attacks in a row are thrown at us at one point in the battle!
Fortunately, Gau has decent luck with getting Giga Volts instead of normal attacks and he wins this battle just as Edgar is stopped and is unable to support himself and Gau anymore.
PHEW!
