It is impossible to complete the challenge using any other party but a party of Crono, Marle and Robo. There is an abundance of full-party attacks that neither defence/HP-increasing accessories, nor Barriers/Shields can reduce in order to have at least one character withstand the battle. Okay, Magus technically CAN, but we're not using him, ever - having a level 37 party member would kill the purpose of the challenge.

But, fortunately, we have Lifeline - a triple tech mastered by Crono, Marle and Robo, thus making them the only possible party for the final boss. Using this tech gives all three party members Auto-Revive status, granting them the only means of surviving some really nasty spells coming their way.

But that's not all. Before you can hope to cast Lifeline, Lavos kills the party! This is why GreenDream, a one-time only Auto-Life accessory (it disappears after being activated once) is vital to continuing the game after this disaster.

A few words about equipping your charactes. Each must be given his/her best weapon, and Robo should be given Terra (nor Crisis) Arm, otherwise he wouldn't be very a reliable attacker (if he uses an attack after being revived, it will do 0 damage).

Crono and Marle have no chances for surviving all of the non-fractional moves, so it's a good idea to give one of them (or both) one of your two Haste Helms. I chose Crono and Robo, because they will be doing all the attacking in this (and the next) battle.

The only elemental attack the boss uses is the lightning based spell in the second battle, so Crono and Marle are given White Mails just in case. Robo is given an armour to guard his status, as having the Haste Helm on leaves him vulnerable to status effects that may very well lead us to a disaster when he is the only party member still standing.

As for accessories, Crono should be given Gold Stud, as we want him to be able to pull off both his Confuse tech and Lifeline with buddies. The same applies to Marle, and Robo gets the GreenDream, because he can do up exactly 3 Uzzi Punches without any MP cost reducing accessories equipped.

Crono's and Robo's roles are attacking, ONLY when more than one member has Auto-Life status. I allow myself to break this rule quite a few times, and my confidence only comes from the experience from repeating the final battles over and over.

Crono technically has the best damage potential, as he is able to deal just under 1900 damage, _assuming the first hit in the string of 4 Confuse hits connects_. During Confuse, Crono makes an attempt to hit the target and once he succeeds once, all further hits in the combo will connect as well, unless it's the last hit. Therefore, Crono can do anywhere from 0 to ~1880 damage, and we mostly see a number inbetween, as his accuracy is abysmal.

Robo has a better accuracy than Crono but misses quite often nevertheless. His Uzzi Punch can only do either 0 or under 1400 damage, and, unlike his red-haired companion, there are no alternatives in between.

It is difficult to say which of them is the party's best attacker, as it all comes down to how lucky you get, simple as that.

Marle's role is using MegaElixirs on the party, for MP restoring purposes mostly, since there's hardly any notable difference between being at lowest or highest possible HP (although having Robo at max HP is crucial in a few phases of the battle, you will see yourself).

And so, the first battle begins. Crono tries to get a hit in, but no matter how hard we struggle to strike first to the best of our reaction, Lavos goes first and wipes out the entire team.

Robo has GreenDream and is revived, his turn comes immediately afterwards. He restores his HP and revives one of the party members. Two attacks follow without hesitation and we come back to the beginning, where only one party member is standing.

The beginning forces you to act under pressure, revive your allies and prepare Lifeline to survive what is about to fall on our poor heads. Since you have to wait until all party members' turns come, it is possible (and also a very good idea) to attack instead of just standing there waiting until Marle's turn comes (she is the only one without Haste).

The left part should be taken out first (lowest HP), followed by the right one. Unlike you might have suspected, leaving the main Lavos alone does not guarantee us safety in any way, as he is still able to execute his deadly full-party KO moves in such conditions.

Have Auto-Revive on 2-3 party members at all costs, keep attacking and recovering MP.

These two are the toughest battles in the entire game and explaining every action that matters in the video description would be too tedious.

Watch the video and I hope you understand my strategy in any instant of the battle, I really tried to do my best at the end of the game.
