The challenge goes on and things finally start to get harder. Even though the video may not show the difficulty of this point in the game, I have to point out that it took a dozen of resets to get the Dadaluma one right and about 100 resets to *reach* Ultros. Why? Read on.

Dadaluma:

This boss itself is not all that hard; what poses a serious difficulty is that when his minions appear, you must not kill them. If you do, you gain experience, simply put. We do NOT want that for the authenticity of the challenge (as it will influence our party average after Magitek Research Facility).

What's the problem with avoiding the minions and just concentrating all offensive actions on the boss, you may ask? After you select a Rage from Gau's menu, he is on auto-pilot and you can not control what he does and whom he targets. If his turn has come BEFORE the minions appear _even if_ the minions are on the field during his action he will target the boss and the boss only. This means that the battle's outcome depends greatly on luck.

It is also a wise decision to stop other "blind" attacks, like Sabin's Blitz and Cyan's Bushido when the minions appear, even though Bushido won't kill ANYONE, it's just too weak.

As for your offensive actions, make sure Gau rages Aspik for the spectacular 50% chance of Giga Volt (or should I say, for the 50% chance of spectacular Giga Volt?) and have Sabin use AuraBolt.

Dadaluma is very likely to heal himself with either Tonics or Potions three times in a row, meaning he may recover from 150 to 750 HP. In this video we experience one of the less terrible variants.

Ultros, second encounter:

The second encounter with Ultros is much easier than the first but still may require you to reset a few times - his status attacks are nasty and his attack pattern too random for its own good.

We are missing the 4th member, Celes, in this battle, and we are forced to fight with one member on one side and two on the other.

Why is this information crucial to know? A full-party (on ONE side only) Tentacle injures everyone badly but kills NOBODY. A Tentacle that hits a person standing alone kills him!

Gau raging Aspik does amazing damage in this battle with Giga Volt. You actually need to have 2 of these in a short period of time (because when Ultros splashes he seems to regenerate his health) in order to win, so pray the 50/50 works your way. I digress, Gau must survive the battle at all costs, meaning he should be standing with a(ny) buddy in order to survive Tentacle.

In this video Ultros targets Edgar with Tentacle and kills him. Forget about him, his Drill does not deal sufficient damage to make his life worthwhile, make sure Locke and Gau are at full health and hope that he doesn't kill you or inflict some nasty status effect that essentially means an early game over for you.

In the next video I will show the many Magitek Research Facility battles. It will be one of the hardest and most frustrating parts of the game.
