FFVIA LLNSNI Part XVII: Umaro & Chadarnook
At this point in the game, the party is rather strong defensively and doesn't have too much trouble defeating most bosses. Mog with perfect defence and Knight's code nullifies all physical attacks coming the party's way, and most other magic is elemental and therefore easily blocked with the right shields.
In this video I defeat Umaro and Chadarnook.
Umaro can be berserked and poisoned. Even under berserk, he'll still do 0 damage to Mog, who will also take damage for characters in critical health with Knight's Code equipped. Casting Haste on Umaro will make him die off poison quicker, but Firaga spells do decent damage here too.
I messed up here, as I shouldn't have recruited Cyan so early. Without Gau, the party's average level went up to exactly 7, meaning both Umaro and Relm joined one level higher than they should have otherwise.
I could always return to a much earlier save, but I'd rather not. Since then I uncursed the Cursed Shield, stole 4 Celestriads, got the painful Magus Rod from the Coliseum and beat up like 200 Cactuars for MP with different characters, if my purse is of any indication of the number. So yeah, not worth the time doing that all over again since it's just a level.
Chadarnook isn't particularly hard. She switches forms either after being attacked five times or 30 seconds after she's been in her current form so setting the battle speed back to the slowest and casting Slow on both turns makes them act less.
And that's a good thing, as in spite of our superb elemental protection in this battle we're still very much owned by Entice, which will make its victim go berserk. We don't want that, seeing how we've learnt so much magic that can be used against us in a deadly manner.
If Flash Rain is used, Gogo will die as he's equipped with a Thunder Shield and not protected against Ice/Water, but Minerva wearing girls and Mog with the uncursed Paladin Shield are immune to all of it.
I remember having the 'genius' idea of equipping Gogo an additional Earring and having him Mimic instead of choosing magic from the Magic command since that way he wouldn't consume MP and wouldn't need one relic slot to be occupied by a Celestriad. Guess why I never tried out that 'genius' idea... Yeah, I know.... Good Lord...
