Final Fantasy VI Advance - Ch. 35 - The Ancient Castle
0We're so close to being done! I know that I keep saying that, but it's truer with each chapter we finish. There's a rumor going around that there's an ancient castle buried underground in Figaro Castle's route to Kohlingen. There's a group of thieves huddled together at Cultists' Tower who will tell you this for 100,000GP. You can pay them if you really want to, but it's not necessary. When you choose to move the castle, you'll be informed that you've hit some rough stratum. Choose to go check it out and head to the cave entrance in the prison.
I decided to pick up Strago on the way. I felt bad that I haven't done this earlier and I need to level him up and beef up his Lore ability before his Ebot's Rock scenario. This is a good place to do both, as he will level up quickly here (the Growth Egg doesn't hurt either) and learn some good Lore. There's no mandatory boss in this scenario, they're all optional. As you can probably guess, I'll be bypassing the dragon here to go back later, but there are two 'Monster-in-a-Box's that give you some good stuff. Namely, Master Tonberry (gives you Gladius) and Samurai Soul (gives you the awesome Master Scroll relic). I gave both to Strago and he suddenly became OP!
There's other good gear here to grab, like the Blizzard Orb for our new Yeti friend and the Punisher (which technically can be used by Strago, but even the Holy Rod that I already had is superior). Lastly, you'll want to grab the short-lived Odin magicite and then venture downstairs. Talking to the petrified Queen will transform it into the Raiden magicite. To get downstairs, you'll have to hit a switch a few steps below the thrones in the throne room. There's a random thief sprite somewhere who will tell you 'down three, over two' or something, but if you just randomly press A, you'll find it no problem.
If you bring Terra, she'll throw in some added dialogue when you read the Queen's diary commenting about a Human and Esper being in love. Unfortunately, you can't teleport out of here, so you'll have to walk. This is a good place to have your characters learn 'Reraise' or 'Ultima', the former you'll definitely need for Cultists Tower!
