Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Gears and Gambit #4 (Hard)(Main Game Normal Mode) - Lucky Blizzaga Shot
Gears and Gambit is the minigame you play when you are dealing with the Cosmo Canyon protorelic quest. I am guessing this is a homage to FFXII.
Note on Main Game difficulty
Word is the difficulty of the main game affects this minigame as well, but I can't confirm or deny. I am not sure if doing this would affect my completion, so I just stay at normal. As such this is the hard version of G&G, without lowering difficulty.
Stage 4 Notable Features:
Stage 4 locks out your ability to call the bot that has same colour as the boss's current element affinity. The rotation is blizzard - lightning - fire, so the lockout would be blue - yellow - fire bot. The usual order of bots also correspond to the default elemental shots they possess.
Boss is also immune to the element they current posess. For example, the boss starts with blizzard shift, so ice based attacks deal 0 dmg to them. You can actually switch the elemental shots to "mismatch" the colour that is banned, but due to this very reason, I opted not to go with this approach.
Most relevant spawns other than the big flans are one neutral flan on the left (after the big yellow flan spawn) and approximately one flyer per phase (probably more during fire shift). It is possible to win without dedicating a move towards the flyers and just dispose of them with portal skills, but I found that really risky if you don't kill the boss fast enough. The neutral flan is also very annoying. After 10s of it appearing it puts on regen, barrier as well after 30s.
Boss uses both Regenga and Barrier. That Regenga not only heals for around 800 HP upfront, the regen combined with the protect status also makes it really hard to kill near the end, considering there are a lot of spawns during the fire phase.
Boss also uses -ga spells once it is targeted by 3 bots. Without mods, hitting weakness means bots getting one shot. Boss even have Bravery at the start.
Strat:
Elements and Enemy Spawns:
As mentioned, I kept the elemental shots aligned with the bot's respective colour due to the fact that the boss is immune to the element they shift to.
The boss still spawns mobs that are weak to the element it shifts to though. You either have to adopt the colour/element mismatch strat, use other element to deal with the mobs or preemptively spawn some of the required elements in the previous phase for the the lightning/fire phase.
The notable mob spawns that may require planning are 2 lightning weakness mobs on the south side (lightning phase) and fire weakness mobs (fire phase) on the right side.
Tanky Ice bots in Lightning phase
I actually used ice bots to deal with the two lightning weakness mobs. Lightning weakness flans use fire attacks, which makes them actively targeting ice bots. I specifically put Barrier Shot on the ice bots so they can tank hits. Since they can survive long enough, combine it with Blizzaga Shots that trigger at less than 50% to kill the boss, which is weak to Ice during Lightning phase.
Brave Shots on Fire bots
Speed kill is the preferrable way to having to deal with regenga + barrier in the later phases, and fire phase is the last one. As such I opted to put Brave Shot on fire bots so that I could push the boss much earlier while fire bots can still be spawned. Also the boss is only weak to the other two elements in the last two phases, so it makes more sense to put it on fire bots.
Try putting fire bots alongside other bots for maximum efficiency whenever possible.
Avoiding self buffs, and arming missiles on Lightning bots
I chose not to put self buff on Lightning bots because they are not tanky enough and more often then not it just ended up wasting the GCD buffing instead of attacking before they die.
As flyer first appears on the lane with the big flan that is weak to lightning, I put missiles and cost -20 on the Lightning bots as well to keep them occupied and cost less to summon. The later they start ganging up on the boss, the others can do more DPS before the boss start nuking with the -ga spells.
Comet on boss + neutral flan:
The neutral flan is a pain if it lives for too long, so I prefer killing it as quickly as possible. Sometimes comet's variance value deals less than 500 HP, so it will live for a bit. Though with this setup, most likely the lightning bot would start using hyper lariat to kill it just as it casts regen.
If the lucky Blizzaga shot didn't happen, you simply will have to go through the fire phase. Bravery and Deprotect wasn't even on, but the luckiest thing was the Blizzaga shot hit the boss right before it puts on Barrier.
If you must go through the fire phase, try to put deprotect on the boss. Then spam lightning bots for weakness damage. Prepare one or two fire bots on the right lane before phase shift if you can, because that's where the initial fire weakness mobs are spawned at. I have got last second kills before, but more often than not you would get overwhelmed eventually.
