DFFOO [JP][Act 4 Chapter 9 (Final) Part 1] Rufus with cheat code crystal ability 4, no mercy
The second last new boss stage for this game. It is not the same as the Ac 3 Chapter 5 Jegran fight. It is the end times, time to bring out the cheat codes and have absolutely no concern over boss's self healing threshold. I love the Chaos Shrine background music from FFI.
I meant to do this ever since Rufus was a thing, but crystal ability 4 was very far away. Well, since we have increased brilliance crystal acquisition from weekly now, I am just one step away from getting the last crystal room done. This boss happens to have quite a lot of HP, so it is the perfect punching bag for some reckless Rufus testing.
For anyone that still cares, crystal ability 4 (Heal) allows you momentarily increase your normal stats by 200%, and 120% max BRV cap. Other than the starting user, everyone has a 2T buff denoted by the little blue icon besides the character. As long as your character don't take an active turn, it would not go down. So in a sense. it is more beneficial to stick them onto counter characters that has high AD and are very slow.
This strat also works on characters that you don't want to give a turn to. In this case, both Fujin and Keiss are there to support the launches. Therefore having at least 1T left on both of them would drastically increases DPS.
On the other hand, since the mBRV cap has been increased, that also means the initial sprint to bank current BRV for Rufus can be significantly shortened to just require one use. I specifically used Fujin not just only for the extra launch wall rush dmg, but also the ability to recover BRV by hitting weakness. This allows me to keep dumping Rufus's BRV during Keiss's and Fujin's active turn launches and can still recover to the overflowed BRV gain level of using their FR.
I originally used Hope, Keiss and Rufus for this. While the "rainbow" HP dmg and 12% extra dmg are very nice, Rufus would have to keep the BRV gain from Keiss FR all the way to the moment he actually moves. I think in the end the Fujin method does just a little bit more in the BT phase and a lot more prior to the BT phase.
I would just briefly talk about the boss:
Make no mistake, this is still a RE-Shinryu stage.
Boss: Jegran Core
Orb limit: 10
+1: Crit dmg dealt to boss
+1: Player has at least one buff
-1: Player action
-2: Boss action
The orb is a non-issue. I doubt they have any intention to make it troublesome to players at this stage.
Force:
0%: 80% BRV dmg taken down
FA: Spread Energy Cannon+ (AOE Magic BRV+HP)
- gives boss ATK, DEF, SPD, iBRV, mBRV+ framed buffs
Recovery Thresholds:
80/50%: Cancelled when both adds (magic crystal weapons) are dead. They are only summoned at these thresholds.
General Approach:
Mechanically the boss is nothing. The BRV dmg reduction, particularly when it has an extra reduction layer during the recovery threshold events can be a problem to you having a smooth DPS phase. Other than rainbow HP dmg, take steps to lower the boss defence and lay down BRV dmg taken up or HP dmg taken up debuffs onto the boss. Dispelling all those buffs from the FA also helps a lot.
Not only the boss has a lot of HP, uncharacteristically the adds summoned during the thresholds also have quite a bit of HP despite being a pseudo 3 target fight. You actually want some strong AOE dmg to dispatch them quickly. You can also try strong arming the boss to death with Rufus or Angeal with focused ST dmg.
I chose the AOE way because Rufus has some great AOE options. U4 + Enna Kros LDCA (well, haven't done this for a long time) gives you 36% proc rate for EX during BT phase. I actually got 5 procs one time even without Enna Kros LDCA. For higher consistency sake though, I chose Bahamut summon + Enna Kros LDCA + U4, ensuring I can bank BRV while AOE destroying the adds. Even with Rufus's 999,999 dumps, it still take 2 AOE hits to eradicate the adds. So I wasn't joking that they have a bit of HP.
That being said, All you have to do with this setup is to direct all main target launches at Jegran. You would still take away a big chunk of health from him during the recovery thresholds while Rufus AOEs. So in the end you can still destroy him pretty easily.
Was a fun "beat them up" stage I suppose. Curiously the coop is the Ultimecia + Coeurl fight from Act 3 Chapter 9 part 1 and not an easier version of this fight with higher orb count (well, not that it matters). It has the exact same HP as well. I actually got to try out Amarant, Kain and Laguna, but since she couldn't survive pass 300+% FR, I just think that there is not much point in uploading lol. If someone is interested, lemme know.
