This hunt is given to us by the kid of a family of travelers that can be found in every Aerodrome, and much like in Final Fantasy VI, we have to travel via Airship until we find it!
The chance to have it appear is initially very low but everytime you travel via Skyferry and talk to the kid in another Aerodrome, the percentage doubles up to a maximum of 64%.
Eventually, a scene will start as you travel and you'll be able to volunteer to fight the beast!
The fight is more annoying than truly hard, Deathgaze can cast a Physical Paling and... he did that right away with me, cool cool.
For some reason, I didn't even bother switching my party members to get Penelo in on the action, so at least you get to see how the beast fights, right?
Its regular physical attacks can inflict Disease, and when he gets low on HP, he'll switch to tier 3 elemental spells as well as Bio or Scourge.
Be wary of it using Reverse too! If it is not immune to Magick at that point, you can use healing spells on it, Renew will bring it down to 1 HP and a simple Cure spell will finish the job at that point.
If it happens to be immune to Magick, just wait it out and finish things when Reverse runs out, it doesn't last very long.
Once done, talk to the kid in any Aerodrome to get your reward, 3,400 gil and 2 Elixirs, guess the family didn't have much more to give after buying an Airship and 100 Black Chocobos!
