This is going to be a big section, I'll post a comments with the rest of the strategy later on.

I have had to reset the game several times, because the starting position of your characters is VERY IMPORTANT. That is if you decide to go, not only to recruit Xavier but also for the member card.

The chapter itself is easy, if you ignore the member card and Xavier's recruitment, but it becomes very difficult if you decide to go for these 2.

Let's start with these secondary objectives:

-To recruit Xavier you need all 8 citizens, talk to their respective units, to know, select a citizen and the exclamation that comes out one of the enemy units, that unit has to talk to that unit, to switch to Green Unit. You have to do it with all 8, and after that talk to Xavier to recruit him. (Very difficult by the way)

-For the member card, all the "Soldier" classes (16 in total) that represent Leonster, have to get out alive, if you kill a unit you lose the member card, if you capture and free it counts for the member card.

There are several interesting treasures in this chapter, a Scroll on the left side, Build Ring on the right side and a Luck Ring that carries a dancer, Recover the same, the Adept Manual of the boss and the rest is not very interesting, a Door Key and a Silver Sword at the bottom center.

STRATEGY:

1º For the normal strategy, without concentrating on recruiting Xavier or getting the member card. You can use this chapter to stock up on weapons, tomes, and other items (remember that this strategy can be applied to other strategies later on).
To start, bring units with good CON or BLD, to capture units and then take their weapons, (10 BLD or CON max for non armor knights) (19-20 CON BLD, can vary stats. For Armor Knight)
Bring 2 thieves, 1 for each side, the one with a low constitution should be on Leif's side (Left), this thief will only open doors, chests, steal vulneraries and little else. The other thief, make sure he has more constitution than the other one, for example: Pan. Not only to open doors, chests, capture, steal items but also to fight.
The same but with 2-3 healers depending on the equipment and group you have with you.
Try to bring the Sleep Staff, to put the thiefs to sleep before they run away with the treasure (if possible).
It's a good idea to bring characters with an empty inventory, to use them as temporary mobile storage, in case your characters are overloaded with items. Once you have cleared everything out, access the central area by having all units in position at the door on both the left and right side, and once done open both doors at the same time.

In this way, half of them go to the left side, and the other half to the right side.

Be careful, as half of them have lethal Hammer for Armor Knight and Killer Lance if you carry the Scrolls it is no problem.
If by chance you have trouble dealing with them, use the door to place a unit to block so that only 1 enemy can attack you at a time, enemies that are stuck to the wall, you can attack them from the other side with ranged attacks be it bows, magic, etc.

Once they are dispatched, you can concentrate on killing Xavier and Gustav.

The best way to kill these units is to use units with the Skill "Nihil". Xavier has Wrath, Acost or Charge and Pavise which can be very dangerous, Wrath can be nullified with Scrolls or Nihil, Charge is very dangerous and even more so with the Master Axe he carries.
That's why using someone with Nihil can help you a lot in the matchup along with an Armorslayer, Hammer or magic.

For Gustav it becomes much easier, but first try to steal several of the items you can steal from him including the Adept Manual, once done, you can kill him. Using magic would be the most sensible thing to do, but having Master Lance, with his strength capped, can kill your mages so the most sensible thing to do is to spend it over time, or else use characters with good HP and DEF and if possible with Wrath skill.
Be careful, as this boss has a 5% second action chance.
There is another way to kill him, but you have to provoke him to use Thoron instead of Master Lance, so use a character with good DEF but poor MAG with some Scroll because Thoron tends to provoke critical hits, if you get it, you can use the mages to kill the boss.
