Fire Emblem Path of Radiance Hard Mode: [Pre-Challenge] Chapter 6
Another map where I had to decide between a low turn count and collecting everything (that is, items and bonus exp). Since low turn counts won't be a help for me later on when the challenge begins (and when my team is far from optimal, the actual turn counts in an all girls run won't be low at all, though Marcia and Jill will indeed see extensive use).
The map can theoretically be beaten by going west with Titania clearing the way and Oscar carrying Ike, Titania critting the boss and Oscar leaving the map whilst holding Ike, putting an end to the chapter. However, that way we're neglecting the Poleaxe that one of the cavaliers holds, whom you encounter if you travel the eastern path. He can also be pulled to your starting location by standing just a little outside his attack range.
In the end, I decided I should go for maximum bonus experience on this map, which means that the map must be cleared in 9 turns, and second - that all units should escape from the boss's location (Ike last). If you combine the two requirements and my low levels (I've been using Titania a lot), you don't get the easiest task.
We start at a pretty disadvantageous position, deep in the forest from where everybody but Titania struggles to get out, and the enemy Soldiers easily ambush, so keeping Rhys away from harm is important. Mages, in general, avoid attacks poorly in this game and quick enemies like Myrmidon can easily double Rhys before he gets some speed procs (his growth is okay). Radiant Dawn has it even worse where the mages are doubled by nearly everything and have horrible caps when it comes to speed.
Here, Rhys can at least take one hit and not die. Later on in the map, I find myself in a situation where I fail to overpower an Archer, so I shove Boyd with Ike so that the party conveniently surrounds him, not letting him attack everyone. I was really worried that shoving with Ike would prevent me from clearing the map in 9 turns, but that's what cavaliers and paladins are for - carrying people.
Titania clears most of the map as usual, though since the party has to get to the escape point on their own, they have to fight some enemies as well, and they're not good at that since they're underlevelled. That's fine though, just one more chapter ahead and we won't have to worry about underlevelled males anymore (we'll have to worry about underlevelled females instead lol).
Technically, Titania could've handled more of the enemies if I hadn't been so stingy and let him equip Javelin/Hand Axe for more of enemy phase, but I thought I wouldn't want to break these weapons and keep them for next map. Turned out that wasn't necessary either.
But anyway, I cleared the map in 9 turns just as required, and got every character to escape. The latter only gives me, like, 50 exp or so, but it's better than nothing, and fulfilling that requirement made me try pretty hard in this map.
The next video will be the last chapter before the actual challenge begins.
Oh, and Happy New Year everyone!
