Radiant Historia - Low Level Part 16: AH Chapter 5 Shadows (Sand Fortress)
There are many enemies (and bosses) in the game called Shadows, so I thought I should specify which ones I'm fighting in the video.
A mandatory battle where Aht and Eruca are forced into the party. We've been consistently ignoring using Eruca in this challenge, if you've noticed (I don't think she's appeared in any of my videos besides the Hell Spider battle, even though she's kinda overpowered even at the lowest imaginable level), and that's because you only enter 3 characters into a battle, and I want the experience to go to other characters (for example, Marco who needs Trans-Turn or Raynie who needs an actual decent spell).
The shadows we face aren't terribly healthy and Aht's traps take them out with little trouble. However, there are two items we want to steal, one from the knight shadow and another one from the wizard show. The items in question are the best weapon for Gafka for now (don't forget that we have to avoid "random" battles and our funds are limited to buy the really good stuff), and a sword for Stocke/Marco which has no other use besides being sold.
To be frank, I don't think I'll ever be using Gafka in this challenge. He's amazing for his role in the early part of the challenge (where you simply can't win without him, in a low level game that is), but he re-joins underlevelled, and though he's about as healthy and as proficient at physical attacking as Stocke, if not more if given some levels, Stocke already does the physical attacking for us, and his presence is required. If I could force Stocke out of the party, I would prove probably use Gafka but otherwise, I see no reason to have two physical attackers (in a normal game, Stocke is probably better as a mage, but here we simply lack the right spells for it). Gafka still laughs at Rosch's next-to-nonexistent contributions in this challenge, though.
Anyway, Stocke's not bad all right. His support magic and pushing is always appreciated, and the only thing he's missing is Trans-Turn to give extra turns to his teammates (like Eruca or Aht). Oh well.
Anyway, this battle is hard at the start as we aren't given a chance to prepare for the enemy attack. Somebody might not be alive when out turn comes, but what we fear the most is if somebody is asleep. The wizard has Sleep, a single target spell and a multi target one. The latter is horrible, and he likes to spam it like there's no tomorrow, as I've learnt from past attempts. This is why I turn break the wizard - we want him neutralised until his item is stolen.
Stocke is equipped for physical offence and is actually able to OHKO the Archer (who carries no item for stealing) with Dead Fencer, even after Power Break. Compare that to Aht's traps, which need one turn to set up and one push assault to be activated. The difference, of course, is that Dead Fencer can't be used again in the battle unless Aht uses Lucky Breath or Stocke takes like a dozen hits and his mana gauge fills again. In quick battles like this, Dead Fencer is just what we want.
Turn breaking the wizard and using Divine Light with Eruca ensures the survival of everyone in the battle. The knight may inflict Fear with his attacks, but as long as they are all avoided, they won't inflict shit.
It's easier to steal the wizard's item than the knight's. The more I play, the more I'm convinced that steal chances have more to do with enemy's position (the closer to you the more likely you are to steal) than with combo numbers. I've succeeded in comboless steals before and failed plenty of lv. 30 combo steals. Still, just a personal observation and not a claim I can make confidently.
