I picked up a DMG Game Boy in fairly good condition for a really decent price today ($25 CAD = ~$18.50 USD) because it had missing vertical lines on both sides of the LCD display.

Vertical Lines are actually fairly common on old DMG's and usually easy to fix. Horizontal lines on the other hand are much harder (almost impossible!) to fix but are also much less common.

Watching the lines restore themselves before your eyes is a satisfying thing to see and knowing I restored a DMG to original condition is nice! I got an okay deal and can say it's now worth twice what I paid for it after a simple fix but knowing I saved one more DMG makes it well worth it to me.
