Continuing my adventures in pseudo-retro gaming, I was curious to see how Rocksteady's ambitious 2015 open world game Batman: Arkham Knight was going to run on the old entry-level Xbox One. Having previously only experienced the PC version (which was troubled at launch and retains some frame rate problems even to this day), the game's cluttered environments can get awfully grainy and blurry on the weaker hardware. It's running in 1600*900 according to Digital Foundry, and racing across the rain-soaked city in the Batmobile certainly creates some performance problems. Arkham Knight is still an impressive-looking, though, and it's not clear that I would have been less satisfied with the console version in 2015 than with the messy PC release (that said, I remember being impressed by the Nvidia GameWorks features).
