Gearhead Caramel ▪️ Roguelike Spotlight #12 ▪️ PART 2 ▪️ Exploring various features in the game!
In Part 2 of our RLSL #12 of Gearhead Caramel we set off to make the mecha of our dreams. I found out after the stream you can only make a $300,000 mecha to be able to use it in the campaign, otherwise you need to find a special vendor is Deadzone Drifter to buy your more expensive creations. And of course, there's a very small chance you'll encounter your custom mech and salvage it.. but that's probably super duper rare!
It's amazing how much you can really customize your mechas though, I mean truly. Designing your own custom mecha is insanely fun with the ability to create even your own weapons with custom effects and animations along with adding as many arms, legs, heads, wings and tails as you can dream up.. It's so dang cool! My only regret is I wish I knew about the money limitation on mecha creation so we could of used our custom mecha but even still I enjoyed the process and at least we know it was not a bug that prevented me from using a custom mech!
After that we started a fresh game to check out how well the custom narration is. Initially it didn't look like there was as much as I thought because Deadzone Driter started out pretty similar to our previous DZD campaign from our previous streams. However, that all changed as we proceeded deeper in. The city changed, the inhabitants changed, the side-quest changed. Some faces stayed the same but their locations changed. What I found most interesting was how different the world map changed. I must admit the random narration mechanic is incredibly powerful and really does make each run feel so much more different on top of dungeon layouts, randomized loot, random quest and more. There is a main objective essentially that basically stays the same but everything else within that is randomized.
I think anyone who is a fan of roguelikes or mechs are going to be in good company here. The developer is quite active and is constantly working on new features to be added too which has me very excited for the future. Overall I fell in love with this game and will probably re-visit it often, especially after big content drops.
