God of War II - speedrun bloopers and such
110While waiting that I get a run that doesn't have major mistakes, here is a highlight reel of noteworthy bloopers that have happened in my 20-something attempts so far. P.S. I hate speedrunning.
0:00 - it helps to aim first before leaping off the rope when doing the shortcut jump in Colossus top floor.
0:15 - I like to call the climbing wall at Typhon beginning the "RNG wall" because it can slow down or even kill Kratos in a myriad of ways.
0:43 - part two of the above sentiment.
1:04 - I start doing the Siren elevator skip but accidentally use both of my jumps at the beginning. Fortunately I still manage to save the situation by doing some PR cancels to get more reach for the flawed long jump.
1:39 - I like to hold block while leaping off grapples to get more speed for Kratos. But doing so is inadvisable when going for the blue switch at the Steeds, as I found out the hard way.
2:10 - the post-Steeds fight jump went a bit awry, but I managed to save it, just barely.
2:30 - I hope it isn't becoming habitual of me to succeed in a difficult trick only to fail at something easy instantly afterwards. This is the second time this has happened at Atlas Lift skip recently...
3:04 - the vent skip after 2nd Translator. While easy in theory, it's better to play the jump a bit safe. Otherwise this might happen. The last checkpoint is before Siren sacrifice, so this is at least a 2-3 minute time waste if it happens! In that sense this is one of the riskiest jumps in the entire run.
3:34 - while trying to cancel the time slow when reaching the Temple of the Fates, I experimented by spamming circle and triangle a bit. But apparently spamming triangle is bad news, and Kratos can become dead on arrival.
3:55 - the most tragic blooper of all, this clip is from a very good run attempt where I was at least 2,5 minutes ahead of Exe when reaching Clotho. And speaking of Clotho, I failed to skip her. Meh... if I had fought Clotho normally afterwards, it would have been only a fairly minor time loss, but that didn't even occur to me as an option. Oh well.
At least this epic failure was my fault alone, and I will avoid it better the next time around. I mean... if this was Ascension, my run would have in all likelihood ended because of some esoteric softlock, and that is far more aggravating as a runner.
Well, I guess the grind still continues in the upcoming days. Sub 1:10 seems unlikely, as that time would demand near absolute perfection. I'll probably be happy with even 1:11, but we'll see.
