Gyrodine Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
Released 3/13/1986, Gyrodine for Famicom is a port of Taito's vertical-scrolling shooter first released in arcades in 1985. A gyrodyne is a type of hybrid aircraft that is sometimes referred to as a heliplane, a hybrid between a helicopter and airplane. Combining the speed of an airplane with the vertical takeoff of a helicopter, the gyrodyne can also target ground enemies with bullets as opposed to merely dropping bombs.
Essentially a variation on the formula establised by Xevious, Gyrodine tries to stand apart with precision aiming and more realistic graphics. This title could be seen as a companion to Taito's Sky Destroyer, both titles aiming for the authentic aircraft experience. If you take 1942 and cross-breed it with Xevious, you get Gyrodine. Not a bad game, but not a great game either.
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
