Released 2/21/1986, The Goonies for Famicom is an action platformer game developed and published by Konami based on the film written by Stephen Spielberg. A similar title for the MSX was released where you play as Sloth, and a near identical version was released for the Nintendo Vs. UniSystem arcade. Sadly, this title never made it to the NES, although Westerners might have played the arcade version on the aforementioned cabinet or a PlayChoice-10.

You play as Player (Mikey or Data would be the obvious choices) and must free the other Goonies from the clutches of the Fratelli brothers while collecting keys and gems. You start in the basement of the "restaurant" portrayed in the movie and work your way down to the caverns where the pirate ship can be found. It's a remarkably faithful adaptation of a movie to a video game, and the special upgrades evoke Data's creative inventions. Side note: the label art on this cartridge is the best on the Famicom.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
