Thexder Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
Released 12/19/1985, Thexder for Famicom is a port (published by Square and developed by Game Arts) of the shooter maze game originally released for various home computers like the Sharp X1. While many computer games ported to the Famicom got upgrades, this particular title has downgraded graphics. Otherwise, it is very similar to other versions.
You play as a mech called Thexder that can transform into a ship, and you must use your guided lasers to defeat a host of enemies while not getting lost in the labyrinth that is each level. A timed shield can be used to protect you from swarming enemies, but it will cost you 30 points of health. This game would never make it to the NES, and the only reason I can imagine would be the due to the difficulty.
Getting the High Score on Thexder was the most difficult and time-consuming task I have had so far with this playthrough project. I enjoy the game despite its steep learning curve, but there are things that make it almost too difficult. Using the NES Max controller helps with the awkward navigation between mech and spaceship, but the “heat-seeking” lasers do not always work well and the health system sucks. It boggles the mind how anyone would be able to get through all 99 levels in this game without save states.
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the High Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Max controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
