Bomberman Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
Released 12/19/1985, Bomberman for Famicom is a revamp of an earlier title of the same name published on various computers including the ZX-Spectrum. Developed by Momo and published by Hudson Soft, this title is where Bomberman came into his own. You play as a robot trying to make his way through 50 underground levels to get to the surface and become a human. If you succeed, you will be transformed into a human, specifically Runner, the main character from Lode Runner. Yes, this game is a prequel to Lode Runner, at least the one for Famicom and NES.
Bomberman... what a classic! It plays more like an RPG than I remembered. The bombs can be upgraded by finding powerups hidden under blocks you bomb. These can increase your range, number of bombs, and even detonation control. Until you get powered up, the early stages can be quite difficult. However, once you get there it becomes much easier to see how one might complete 50 levels. The password system works well for this kind of a game, although it takes a long time to enter. It's a shame the NES had to wait four years for this one to be localized, but it still played great when it did.
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Top Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES original controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
