And so, the final episode of Aliens TC: Special Edition. Interestingly, I believe in the original version, the first map is actually in place of the old bonus map. Special Edition kinda swapped the places a bit.
Another interesting bit is that this map has been completely redone from the original. Not by the original author of Special Edition, mind you, someone else. This one came from Dr. Doctor. This map wasn't even part of SE, I needed to download another addon to get this particular map, and it's a very interesting remake indeed.
Still has flaws from the original, I hate how the progression in the main corridors were tied to linedefs dotted randomly that you pass through, you often don't know that another wall's opened. Other than that though, this remake does improve and I can't imagine replaying the SE without going through this map atleast once.
On the other hand, the second bonus map was just a retread of the first map but with enemies and somehow even more terrible level design. I'm talking about the switch in the corner that you need to press in order to open up that one door behind the first card. Frustrated me to no end when I first played it and have no clue why the door is stuck. Doesn't help that you can't actually finish the map 'cause of invisible walls, had to tear that one off through the ol' SLADE editor. Don't particularly care for that one.
In any case, that'll be it for Aliens TC: Special Edition. Will there be more Aliens themed excursions with the ol' HDest? Most definitely. I got a couple in mind already. Will Lost Civilization return? Not now, I'm having difficulties with that mapset (I mean, who knew a mapset dedicated to making humongous maps would be terrible for NFRs?) but I got something else while we wait, should be good to spend the time.
