Hideous Destructor | Hostage Rescue III: Embassy | No Failure Run
Interesting thing, this mapset. It literally is pretty much the predecessor to Twilight Warrior, even down to having its third map essentially be a less polished version of the Navy Seals map from TW. It also only had 3 maps, with the first one being insignificant 'cause of the lack of threat and the third one being the Navy Seals map I mentioned, which is why in this recording I'll be playing the one map that's actually interesting, Embassy. Don't mind the TW intermission and the Embassy II thing, I had merged this particular map with the non-DEH TW setup I have.
I'm not sure if this Embassy is actually the older version of what the map turned out to be in TW. I quite like how it looks compared to the TW version, particularly the outdoor area. Sadly, it's still not great. I could go on and on about the stupid designs. You're given an invulsphere at the start and then sealed off, I imagine to give a cinematic feel of staking out the building first, but you're already being shot at and can retaliate with the door taking too long before it reopens. The entire map is darker than usual, to the point where I used an Infiltrator loadout just so I could get an infrared goggles to use, and the cheap tactic of having enemies' sight be unhindered by darkness is 100% strong here. You need 3 keycards to exit the map, but you already could reach the rooftops with 2, if you forgot to get that 3rd keycard and went to the roof first, you're softlocked 'cause the elevator doesn't have any linedefs to trigger it back down. The list goes on.
This also marks the end of the BS/VN saga with HDest, off to the forests with Lost Civ next.
