Some 10 hours into the game I'm still finding Homefront: The Revolution to be an engaging and worthwile experience. Post-invasion Philadelphia is a lot of fun to explore (despite the more depressing aspects of this setting), and splitting the large game world up into various sectors of manageable size seems to have made it easier for the developers to include a healthy amount of variety between different parts of the city. The detailed environments have a hand-crafted feel to them and are generally quite impressively realized from both a visual and technical standpoint. Whereas the typical open world busywork is really poor and insubstantial as far as the actual gameplay goes (even compared with, say, the lesser titles from Ubisoft's globe-spanning sweatshops), Dambuster Studios clearly put a lot of effort into making sure the player's actions have a tangible impact. Civilian ("yellow") sectors gradually descend into anarchy as a result of rebel activity and the ruined ("red") warzones become much less dangerous to traverse when enemy outposts have been conquered and guerilla soldiers start patrolling the areas.
