The shooter action in Homefront: The Revolution is unforgiving, and the gameplay in general takes inspiration from the likes of Far Cry 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla (and, less excitingly, the Killzone series). While many of Homefront's side objectives seem decidedly undercooked and there is often curious little challenge in taking back Philly from the KPA, the gunplay itself can get jarringly brutal at times. You are often vastly outnumbered, there is no regenerating health and it takes only a few moderately well-placed shots to send the player back to the nearest respawn point. On the plus side, the unusual weapon upgrade system is neat and there is a real "punch" to many of the guns which make them satisfying to use.
