When I discuss the topic of personality disorders (found here:https://youtu.be/BZ9MBE0sxRE) it is not uncommon for me to get questions about psychosis and schizophrenia, especially when I discuss cluster A (https://youtu.be/Uuy3EPubu1M) personality disorders.
It's important for me to highlight the challenges often surrounding a diagnosis of psychosis as I end the conversation on personality disorders. I will spend the upcoming week discussing the impact of psychosis, what to say and not say to someone suffering, and how to engage in an equal conversation with a paranoid individual.
In this video, I will be discussing the basics of schizophrenia/psychosis with more of a focus on delusional thinking. After spending over 1 year in a psychiatric hospital 8 years ago, I realized that a lot of people lacked basic knowledge on what psychosis really means. I explain that here.
Discussed in the video:
-Definition of psychosis, delusions, and hallucinations
-Common symptoms of schizophrenia and psychosis
-Cognitive, behavioral, and sensory challenges
-Challenges of medications
-How we should understand the experience of psychosis
