About this video: To change the message on the Minecraft server list to be truly custom and update while your server is live without restarting, you will need a plugin. For this, we recommend using MiniMOTD. This plugin has tons of different features when it comes to changing your Minecraft message of the day, and even changing things like your Minecraft server icon. If you want to keep your server constantly fresh, MiniMOTD is a great way to do it!
However, MiniMOTD isn’t the only way. You can also change your message of the day and even add colors to it using your server.properties file. If you open that file with Notepad, you will see a ‘motd’ setting. You can change your message of the day on the server list here. However, you will have to restart your server to get the changes to work. You will also have to use special color codes for this. You can find those color codes linked in the description above.
If you want more customization though, you can find the official download page for MiniMOTD in the description above. Once you are there, the download button is towards the top right of this page. You may need to keep/save the file depending on your browser. To install MiniMOTD, just add it to your Minecraft server’s plugins folder and restart the server.
