The first step of making a Minecraft 1.17 server is downloading the server files. You can find the link to the Minecraft server file in the description above. When you click that link, it will actually take you to our website. On our website, you will find a great text tutorial for hosting a 1.17 Minecraft server. This is good if we got too fast in video. From there, click on the green ‘Download Minecraft’ button to be taken to the official Minecraft server file download page.
On this page, click the green ‘minecraft_server.1.17.jar’ link. The Minecraft 1.17 server jar will start downloading. Depending on your browser, you will have to keep or save the file though. This is complete normal.
After you have your server.jar downloaded, you will need to make a ‘Minecraft 1.17 server’ folder on your desktop and drag-and-drop the server file into it. Then, double click on that server file. You will have a few files including a ‘eula.txt’ file appear. Open that eula file, and change ‘EULA=false’ to ‘EULA=true’. Then, double click on the server.jar file again. Your Minecraft server will open up in 1.17!
At this point, I would recommend joining your Minecraft server using ‘localhost’ as the IP address in Minecraft 1.17. This isn’t required. However, it can help you test your Minecraft 1.17 server to make sure it is joinable and to make sure that your computer can run a Minecraft server for 1.17 before allowing your friends to join.
If you want to play Minecraft with your friends though, you will need to port forward. This honestly isn’t that difficult, and we show you every step of allowing your friends on your Minecraft 1.17 server. Overall, you will need to login to your router and forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol. Once you have done this, your friends will join your Minecraft server in 1.17 using your public IP address. You can find your public IP address using the link in the description above. Give this IP to your friends, and they will join your Minecraft server just like they would any other.
