How to Choose What Apps Connect with ExpressVPN with Split Tunneling
14The ExpressVPN software allows you to choose what applications connect to the internet using the VPN. This is helpful if you’re playing games or have a specific program you want to use with your standard connection.
The split tunneling settings can be found in the ExpressVPN software options. At the bottom of the general options you will need to enable split tunneling to have access to the settings.
With the split tunneling settings open you will see three options for VPN connections. The first setting will have all applications connect to the internet using the VPN. The disable method will allow you to choose which applications don’t use the ExpressVPN connection. The enable option will allow you to choose specific programs to connect using ExpressVPN.
Typically using the disable method is preferred so the majority of your programs still use the secure ExpressVPN connection.
Pressing the plus icon will allow you to select programs to be added to your list. Programs can be loaded in by checking the box next to them, or by manually selecting the application file. All the added programs will be added to the list of programs to bypass the VPN. These applications can be removed at any time you selecting it pressing the minus icon.
Once confirmed all applications added to the ExpressVPN split tunnel settings will remain there until removed. This means if you restart or turn off your PC the settings will not be reset.
