How to Lock a Channel on Discord Server
Discord channels can appear to have a lock next to them. A locked channel prevents members from joining the channel. For a user to join the channel they will need to have the required permissions. Channel permissions can be set through the channel settings.
When a voice channel is locked, members will see a lock next to the channel name. However, if a text channel is locked, they won’t be able to see the channel at all.
To lock a voice channel you will need to set the permissions so users can’t connect to the channel. If the aim is for the channel to be locked to everyone, then you can simply disable the connect permission on the everyone role. If there are users that you want to still be able to connect, then add the role or members to the channel permissions, then enable the connect permission.
As the server owner you won’t be able to see the lock icon. This is because the owner can always connect to the channel. If you wish to ensure you have set the locked channel up correctly, then you can open the roles menu in the server settings. With the roles menu open, you can select a role and choose to “View Server as Role”. The channel will then be locked as you view the channel as that role. You can disable this view at any point using the top bar.
A channel with a lock is typically used for one of two purposes. The first is to set important information in the side panel. Locked channels are usually used for member counts and member goals. A locked channel can also be used to show when something is happening, such as when a video is being recorded. Members will be able to see when people are in the locked channel, and who they are.
