How to Stop Discord Bots from Accessing Channels in your Server
18Discord bots often create their own roles when they’re added to a server. The permissions these roles have tend to be excessive with more power than necessary. This often results in the bot having access to all channels in a server.
Universal channel access can be an issue when it comes to feature and game bots. If a bot has access to all channels it allows server members to interact with them in any channel. It is good practice to keep your channel organised and as spam free as possible by making bot specific channels.
To prefer a Discord bot from accessing a channel you will need to remove its permissions in that channel. In the channel settings you can manage the permissions for specific roles and users. Add the bot permission to customize what it can see and do in the channel.
Disabling the bots permission to view or connect to a channel will remove its access. Discord server members will no longer be able to interact with the bot in the selected channel.
Permissions can also be applied to categories. All permission settings will be synced when creating a new channel in the category.
A quick way to change permissions to a lot of channels is to setup a temporary category with your chosen permissions. Then when you drag a channel into the category you will be asked if you’d like to sync. Syncing permissions will remove all current settings and replace them with the category settings. You can also choose to sync a channel by opening the channel settings menu.
