5The best and most modern way to create a family and share games on Steam is by using the Steam Families feature. This new system replaces the old Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View, consolidating them into one, more flexible platform. It allows you to share your entire game library with up to five other family members and even play different games from the same library at the same time.
How to Create a Steam Family and Game Share
Opt into the Steam Families Beta: You and the friends or family members you want to share with must be using the Steam Families beta client.
Open your Steam client.
Go to Steam Settings (or Preferences on Mac).
In the left-hand menu, select Interface.
Under "Client Beta Participation," click the dropdown menu and select Steam Families Beta.
Restart your Steam client to apply the change.
Create a New Steam Family:
After restarting, go to your Account Details page (you can find this by hovering over your username in the top menu).
Click on Family Management.
Click the "Create a Family" button and give your family a name.
Invite Members:
On the Family Management page, click "Invite a Member."
A list of your friends will appear. Select the friend you want to invite.
You can add them as an Adult or a Child.
Adults have the same permissions as you; they can invite new members and manage parental controls for any child members.
Children are subject to parental controls, which allow adults to manage their playtime, restrict access to certain features, and approve purchase requests.
The invited member will receive a notification and must accept the invitation to join the family.
Once they accept, their eligible games will automatically appear in your shared library. You can find all the shared games in your main library list and see who owns each game.
